Affirmation apps compared: I am, ThinkUp, Innertune and a session written for you
I am suits short lines you read through the day, ThinkUp suits hearing affirmations you record yourself, and Innertune suits a large library of spoken affirmations you can loop, with AI-picked playlists. LuminVoice does something different: each night you fall asleep to a session written from your own words and read by a calm narrator voice you pick. We make LuminVoice, so every fact about the other apps comes from their own website and US App Store listing, checked on 20 October 2026.
How we compared, and how to check us
Most lists of the best affirmation apps are written by one of the apps on the list. This one is too: we make LuminVoice. So here is how we tried to keep it fair.
- Every fact about another app comes from that app's own website or its US App Store listing, checked on 20 October 2026. Each page is linked in the sources at the end.
- Prices are in US dollars, as the listing or website showed them that day. App Store listings often show several price points for the same plan. We name the ones that are clearly labeled and leave out anything we could not read clearly.
- We say what each app offers. We do not say an app is missing something unless its own pages say so.
- There is no score and no ranking. These apps do different jobs, so the useful question is which one fits what you want.
Apps change their features and prices often. Before you subscribe to anything, including us, check the app's own listing for what it offers today.
Five apps at a glance

The sections below take each app on its own terms: what it does, and what it is good at.
I am: Daily Affirmations
I am, made by Monkey Taps, has by far the most ratings in the group: on 20 October 2026 its US App Store listing showed a 4.8 average from about 736,000 ratings. It puts short affirmations where you will see them: on your Lock Screen, with a new one every day, on Home Screen widgets, and in reminders that arrive through the day. Its listing names iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and iMessage.
You make it yours by choosing categories for the parts of life you want to work on, such as self-esteem and confidence, and by picking a background, reminders and widgets. The lines come from its library, written for everyone who uses the app, and its listing encourages you to say them out loud.
What it is good at: being there all day without asking much of you. If you want one kind sentence on your phone each time you pick it up, it is hard to make that easier.
Price as listed: free to download. Premium is listed at $14.99 a month, $59.99 a year or $149.99 for life, among other price points. The same maker also offers Motivation, a daily quotes app, if quotes suit you better than affirmations.
ThinkUp
ThinkUp, from Precise Wellness, is built around one idea: hearing affirmations spoken by your own voice. You choose from more than 300 affirmations grouped under more than ten life goals, including sets from authors such as Hal Elrod, or you write your own. Then you record each one, add music and an image, and play the set back. On 20 October 2026 its listing showed a 4.7 average from about 7,500 ratings.
Its own tips are specific: choose at least 15 affirmations, play them on a loop for five minutes at least once a day before you go to sleep, and keep the same set for at least 21 days. You can also connect it to Apple Health to log your practice as mindful minutes.
What it is good at: the most direct way to hear words you chose, spoken by you. If you like the idea of your voice saying it, or want every word to be yours, ThinkUp gives you full control. The trade is that you do the writing and recording yourself, and some people would rather not hear their own voice at bedtime.
Price as listed: the free version lets you build a short program with a few recordings and one background track. Premium is listed at $7.99 a month, $39.99 a year or $99.99 for life in the US, and the listing mentions a free trial week.
Innertune
Innertune, from Innertune Media, is built around a large library. Its listing describes 77,000 affirmations and more than 550 playlists with Premium, spoken by professional voices over background beats for focus, relaxation or sleep. It offers a night mode and daily reminders, adds offline downloads with Premium, and its website describes playing affirmations on a loop all night. On 20 October 2026 its listing showed a 4.8 average from about 12,000 ratings.
Personal has two layers here. You can choose from more than 500 topics, or, with Premium, tell its AI what you are working on and it picks affirmations from the library one by one to build your playlist. And with Premium you can record affirmations with your own voice instead of a narrator's.
What it is good at: range. If you want a lot of spoken affirmations, a choice of voices and sounds, and something to keep playing in the background day or night, Innertune is built for that.
Price as listed: free to start. Its App Store listing shows in-app purchases for Innertune Premium from $4.99 to $69.99, including a weekly plan at $4.99. We could not match every price to a plan length, so check the app before you subscribe.
Stella
Stella calls itself a personal manifestation companion, and it includes daily affirmations. It writes narrated stories of your dream life from what you share, weaving in your name, the people you love and what you want, and plays them with ambient sounds such as rain or the ocean. It adds swipeable daily affirmations, and you choose the narrator who reads them.
What it is good at: stories that feel like they are about you, told as if the life you want is already here. It is free to download, its listing shows Stella Unlimited purchases from $6.99 to $29.99, and its website offers a free 7-day trial. We compare it with LuminVoice in more detail on LuminVoice and Stella compared.
What “personalized” means in each app
Almost every app in this group calls itself personal. The word covers four quite different things.
- You choose from a shared library. The lines are written for everyone. You pick the topics, the look and the timing. I am works this way, and so does choosing topics in Innertune.
- Something chooses from the library for you. Innertune's AI playlists pick affirmations to fit what you tell it. The lines are still written for everyone; the selection is made for you.
- You hear your own voice. ThinkUp, and Innertune with Premium, let you record the lines yourself. The voice is yours, and the words can be too, if you write them.
- The words are written from yours. Stella and LuminVoice write from what you tell them, so the text is about your life rather than picked from a list.
The difference matters more than it sounds. A line like “I am confident” can feel hollow when you do not believe it, and research on affirmations points toward specific, believable words over big general ones. Our guide do sleep affirmations work goes through that research. Whose words you hear may matter as much as whose voice says them.
Where LuminVoice is different, and what it does not do
LuminVoice sits in the fourth group, and it is made for one moment: the minutes before you fall asleep. You tell Lumi, a small flame, who you want to become, in your own words. Each night you fall asleep to a self-hypnosis session written from those words, read by a calm narrator voice you pick, built from a real human voice.
To be fair about the trade-offs:
- It does not record or clone your voice. If hearing yourself is what you want, ThinkUp or Innertune offer that.
- It is not a daytime app. There are no Lock Screen affirmations or widgets through the day; I am is made for that.
- It is not a library to browse. You get your own session, not thousands of lines to choose from.
- It is a web app you add to your Home Screen, not a download from the App Store. The other four are native apps, and Innertune and Stella both list offline listening.
- After 7 free nights it costs $14.99 a month or $99 a year, more than the yearly plans listed for I am or ThinkUp.
Which one to pick for which need
- You want a kind line in front of you all day: I am.
- You want to hear your own voice say words you chose: ThinkUp.
- You want lots of spoken affirmations, many voices and sounds, and something to loop day or night: Innertune.
- You want stories about a dream life, told as if it is already here: Stella.
- You want to fall asleep each night to words about who you are becoming, written from your own words, without recording yourself: LuminVoice.
- You want to spend nothing: write and record your own, below.
Several of these can sit side by side. A line from I am on your Lock Screen and a session at bedtime do different jobs.
The free option: write and record your own
You do not need an app to hear your own affirmations. Here is the whole method, and it costs nothing.
- Write five to ten lines in your own words. Make them specific and believable: “I take a breath before I answer in meetings” rather than “I am fearless.”
- Keep them in the present tense and in plain words, the way you would talk to a friend.
- Record them with the voice recorder already on your phone, slowly, with a pause after each line. Or simply read them aloud in bed.
- Listen as you settle down to sleep, with the volume low and the screen face down.
- Change a line when it stops feeling true, or when it has become true.
If you get stuck on the first step, our guide to whether sleep affirmations work has a free tool that turns a general line into one you can believe.
Where LuminVoice fits
LuminVoice is for the person who wants the words to be theirs but would rather not write or record them. You tell Lumi, a small flame, who you want to become, in your own words, and each night you fall asleep to a session written from those words and read by a calm narrator voice you pick, built from a real human voice. Your own voice is never cloned. It will not put a line on your Lock Screen, and it is not a library to browse. The first 7 nights are free, then it is $14.99 a month or $99 a year.
Questions
What is the best affirmation app?
It depends on what you want. I am suits short lines you read through the day, ThinkUp suits recording your own affirmations, Innertune suits a large library of spoken affirmations with many voices, and LuminVoice suits falling asleep to a session written from your own words. There is no single best one.
Is there an affirmation app that uses your own voice?
Yes. ThinkUp is built around recording affirmations with your own voice, and Innertune lists recording your own voice as a Premium feature, according to their US App Store listings checked on 20 October 2026. LuminVoice does not record or clone your voice; a calm narrator voice you pick reads your session.
What is a good alternative to the I am app?
If you want to hear affirmations rather than read them, ThinkUp lets you record your own and Innertune offers a large library of spoken ones. If you want words about your own life at bedtime, LuminVoice writes a session from your own words, and if you want something free, write a few believable lines and record them on your phone.
What is a good ThinkUp or Innertune alternative if I do not want to record myself?
Innertune offers professional voices as well as your own. Stella and LuminVoice both use a narrator you choose. The difference is the content: Stella writes stories of your dream life, and LuminVoice writes a session for the minutes before sleep, from your own words about who you want to become.
How much do affirmation apps cost?
As listed on 20 October 2026, in US dollars: I am Premium is $14.99 a month, $59.99 a year or $149.99 for life; ThinkUp Premium is $7.99 a month, $39.99 a year or $99.99 for life; Innertune lists Premium purchases from $4.99 to $69.99. All three are free to download. LuminVoice is 7 nights free, then $14.99 a month or $99 a year.
Can I make my own affirmations for free?
Yes. Write five to ten specific, believable lines in your own words, record them slowly with your phone's voice recorder, and listen as you settle down to sleep. Change a line when it stops feeling true.
Hear words that are really yours tonight.
